“Veliko Tarnovo is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in Bulgaria. The settlement was built on several hills between which the Jantra river meanders. The river not only cuts through the city but also has eight significant bends in the city center. There are several bends that are almost 180 degrees, so there are places where you can see the river flowing in both directions, while it flows around an entire city district between the two points you can see.”

The settlement was built on several hills surrounded by the Yantra River. The river not only crosses the city but also has eight significant meanders in the city center. Several bends are nearly 180 degrees, so there is a place where we can see the river in both directions, while it bypasses an entire quarter of the city.
In the 12th-14th century, Veliko Tarnovo was the capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire.
In 1908, after the independence, the Constitutional Assembly met here, and Veliko Tarnovo missed to become the capital just by one vote in favor of Sofia.
