The so-called Republic of Abkhazia is located between the rivers Psou and Inguri in Transcaucasia. It is surrounded by Russia, Georgia, and the Black Sea. The area of Abkhazia is 8,665 square kilometers (3345.575mi²).
Population (in 2021): 245,000
Many nationalities live in Abkhazia. Abkhazians make up only 51% of the total population.
Most of the population of Abkhazia are Christians.
The distribution looks something like this:
60% - Christianity;
15% - Islam;
9% - atheism;
5% - paganism;
4% - Abkhazian religion;
Many profess the Abkhazian religion while being Christians or Muslims. They believe in the One God - Antsva.
Most of the territory is occupied by mountains, and more than 50% is covered with forest vegetation.
Abkhazia has rich flora and fauna, picturesque rivers, and lakes. A humid subtropical climate prevails.
Among the minerals are coal, peat, marble, granite, limestone, chalk, lead, and small deposits of oil and gas.
There are many sources of mineral water in Abkhazia.
Citrus fruits, grapes, tea, and tobacco are grown in large quantities.
