“There are car rental companies that outright forbid traveling to the Turkish side with a rental car. And for those that do allow it, the insurance does not cover the Turkish side at all. However, there is no reason to panic, as it is possible or mandatory to purchase extra insurance at the border crossing, which costs around 20-30 euros, depending on the length of stay on the Turkish side.
We did not go over to the Turkish side with our rental car, although AutoTrust Cyprus did not prohibit it, my two traveling companions voted against it. I was the driver, but we followed democratic rules, and always decided by voting, with the will of the majority prevailing. However, we definitely wanted to see a bit of the other side, so we paid for a one-day bus trip from Protaras.” (2019)
